Steel cable systems are the traditional approach — strong, predictable, and inspectable. They restrict movement at the support point, which protects against catastrophic failure but transfers some load to the rest of the tree. Dynamic synthetic systems (Cobra, Boa) allow controlled movement, which keeps the tree's wood actively strengthening itself.
